The River Clyde

Ye take the high road, and I’ll take the low road, and I’ll be in Scotland, ‘afor ye, for me and my true love will never meet again…

While not remembering all the words to the song, it’s in my head as we travel down a “bonny” road to the River Clyde. We are on our way to the famous Clydeside Shipyards.

The shipyards, as my escorts in Glasgow have pointed out, are where the two Queens, Mary, in 1936, and Elizabeth, 1938, were launched. Then came the war, and two nights in March, 1941, when over 200 bombs fell on the shipyard. The streets of Glasgow were destroyed, buildings collapsed and burnt.

Today, the Glasgow I am touring, is a beautiful, culturally rich city, and stands as a financial centre of Scotland, hosting over half the major business of the entire country.

….on the bonny, bonny banks of Loch Lomond.
